Respecting people …

Recently I met a friend of mine who is working in a big company. He looked harassed and I asked him what was bothering him. He said that he was the Project Manager for a particular Project that was underway and he was not happy with the way the client were. The clients were demanding, unmindful of basic courtesies, aggressive to say the least and totally anti to respecting people and their feelings. It was as if they were born like that and did not want to change that. He had apparently escalated the issue to his higher ups and they too were concerned and the things where going in a yo-yo fashion. To add to the complication, the client sent yet another manager who was the Country Head or something and his dealing seemed to be amateurish at best and more towards Cover Your Ass syndrome. The client company was covered by the Angel Investors. I wonder what the hell those Angels saw in those CYA cases. I guess, they only saw the $$$$$$.
He was in a dilemma whether to handle the project or not.

The strangest part was that their Country Head started telling him what to do in my friends’ office! The gall of him! My friend said that we are driven by request basis but these by order basis and he was not happy with that. He pushed back hard and then things came to a stand-still for sometime. He said that he was thankful that his management was rock-solid behind him and had faith in his abilities. He admitted that he had put forward a rather aggressive technical completion date and had not considered all the client side meetings that he was bound to attend. He vowed that the next schedule will be given as twice the actual estimate so that the client also gets a taste of their medicine.

I realise that had I been in his shoes, I too would have gladly exchanged places with someone else. But, on second thoughts, why not go through this as an experience in Project Management. Not all guys are fools anyway so y brand entire mankind as fools?

I told him the same and he looked okay.

It is such an irony that respecting humans and their feelings is the last thing in mind when doing business.

I hope this is not what happens to anyone dealing with vtiger. Funny how always the basics are got wrong.

Is it a fact that people take shit just for the money they get?
