Review with the team

Today, I had a review with the entire team. We discovered that we were lacking in the Ajax and Javascript handling areas. This was made clear to all of us that we have to be self-sufficient else it is going to be a very ‘dependent-situation’. The team actually had got a lot lopsided due to this and that was hampering our efficiency in the process.  The team started to get into blockages as the Ajax/javascript issues were left for some specific guy to handle. Ideally, I would prefer that each individual be a team unto himself. That, makes the process more independent.

Each individual has a need to be recognized and feel important. By making the person independent, this issue will be addressed. It will eventually lead to ownership and that leads to pride.

I realise that the release process for 5.0.1 was not smooth enough. I have asked Philip, Mickie and Gopal to figure out what all went wrong and to come up with solutions to those issues. I have directed them that at any point of time, if asked for the release to happen, the entire process should take 30 minutes from the beginning to the end. I have asked them to automate as much as possible the release process so that we do not have much human-intervention.
By making somethings timebound, I want to ensure that discipline is maintained and there is clarity in the roles and responsibilities.

By the way, did I tell you that the guys have nick-named me as ‘Military’
